Meet the 2019 Football Coaches!

Coach D.J. Reid - Varsity

DJ Reid is entering his 12th year coaching youth football and will be the Head Coach for our Varsity team this upcoming season.  DJ has been a Head Coach for the Redskins organization for 10 years; including Freshman Maroon team (2 years), JV Maroon team (3 years) and this will be his 5th year as the Head Coach for our Varsity Team.  Last year, DJ led our Varsity team to its 1st Superbowl victory since 2012.  DJ also let the Freshman Maroon team to the Superbowl in 2011 where they took 2nd place.

DJ started playing football in the 5th grade and continued through high school at East Kentwood High School.  DJ went on to play football at Central Michigan University as a wide receiver and was a 3-year letterman.  In 1993, he earned 2nd Team All-Mac Honors as a wide receiver

DJ Resides in Rochester Hills with his wife Mindi and their 2 sons, Drake and Ty.  Drake was a 5-year Lifetime Rochester Redskin and a 3-year all league and Academic All-State football player for Rochester High School.  This fall Drake will be attending Wayne State University on a football scholarship.  Ty was a 7-year Lifetime Rochester Redskin and he will be entering his Sophomore year at Rochester High School.

Coach Gary Grochowski - JV Gold


Gary Grochowski is entering his 5th year coaching for the Redskins organization and his first year as the Head Coach of JV Gold.  For the last 2 years he has been a lead assistant coach for the Freshman Gold team and for the Jr. Freshman Gold team the 2 years prior.

Coach Grouch began playing youth football in 3rd grade for the Sterling Heights Redskins. He then played at Jeannette Junior High School and continued through high school at Sterling Heights Stevenson, making Varsity in 10th grade. Coach Grouch was recruited to play college football for a number of Division II and Ivy League schools, although he ultimately chose to pursue his academic career at the University of Michigan.

Coach Grouch resides in Oakland Township with his wife Kristie and three sons: Alex (4 Year Redskin), Luke (3 Year Redskin) and Jake (future Redskin).

Coach Karlos Griffin - JV Maroon

Karlos Griffin has 16 years of coaching and administrative experience in youth athletics with a strong focus on the development of children and young adult by assisting them with their athletic and academic goals.  Karlos is entering his 5th season as a Head Coach with the Rochester Redskins.  Karlos has also served in the past as a Head Coach, Defensive Coordinator and Administrator for the Michigan Warriors and Ypsilanti Panthers working with children ages 5-14.

Karlos began his youth football career at age 8 and continued to play football in high school at Ferndale High School where he was a 3 year varsity team member and he also was a member of the basketball and track teams.  Karlos earned All-Conference and All-County honors in both football and track in high school and honorable mention All-State honors in 1993 for football.  He continued his football career collegiately at Bowling Green State University for 3 seasons as a Wide Receiver and Defensive Back.

Coach Griffin resides in Rochester Hills with his wife Angela and 3 daughters Naomi (18), Makaiya (15) and Mahni (7).  Coach Griffin and his family love being a part of the Rochester community and Redskins organization!

Coach Mike Bentley - Freshman Gold


Mike Bentley is beginning his 4th season with the Rochester Redskins and his second year as Head Coach of the Freshman Gold team. He also spent two years as an assistant on the Jr. Freshmen Gold, including the Jamboree Champion team of 2017.

Coach Bentley began playing youth football in 5th grade for the Shelby Lions and continued through High school at Utica Eisenhower. Coach Bentley has also spent the last several years coaching youth baseball and basketball teams.

Coach Bentley resides in Rochester Hills with his wife Melissa, three sons and their dog Boomer. Coach Bentley's sons all play for the Rochester Redskins, twins Chase and Evan (12- JV Gold) and Owen (10- Freshman Gold).

Coach Tim Youngblood - Freshman Maroon


Tim Youngblood will be our 2019 Freshman Maroon Head coach! Tim is entering his 7th year as a coach for the Rochester Redskins. Tim was the Head Coach in 2017 and 2018 for the back to back Super Bowl champion JV Maroon team.  He led the 2016 Freshman Maroon team to the Superbowl in 2016 where they took 2nd place and in 2015 made it to the semi-finals with the Freshman Maroon team. He has coached 6 years at Anchor Bay High School at the Freshman, JV and Varsity levels in addition to 1 year at Warren Fitzgerald High School. Tim also coached 1 year with the Romeo Junior Bulldogs. Tim played high school football at Utica Eisenhower High School, receiving numerous honors including MAC Red MVP, First Team All-State and served as the Quarterback in the East West All Star game.

Following high school, Tim continued his football career at Hillsdale College from 1993-1998 where he was a 3 year letter winner. Coach Youngblood will have 2 sons in the program (JT- Varsity and Wade - Freshman Maroon.) Married to Angela, they also have a daughter Lucy who will be a Sophomore at Stoney Creek and Peyton (Redskins class of 2015) who will be a Senior at Rochester H.S. in the fall of 2019.

Coach Bryan Heckman - Junior Freshman

Bryan Heckman is starting his 3rd season (16,17) as the Jr Freshman Gold Head Coach and spending last season on the Freshman Gold staff.

Bryan played high school football at Portage Central High School, receiving All-Conference honors. After high school, Bryan earned 4 varsity letters in football at Albion College. He started 18 straight games, earning All-Conference honors on 3 conference championship teams.

After college, Bryan worked with several different high school programs serving various roles. Currently on Friday nights, you will find Bryan working the sidelines as an MHSAA Football official.

Coach Bryan resides in Oakland Township with his wife Lori and their three sons; Bradley, Jeremy, and Ryder.
